Electricity...

"I can't really explain it, I haven't got the words, it's a feeling that you can't control..."

I am a vegetable. Or I live my life as such. But the thing is, there are things in my life that get me truly excited, and make me love life again. These are essentially dancing, and singing, or doing both together. When I look back on my life, I realise that some of my happiest times have been when I was dancing as part of a massive group/society (Durham University Dancesport Team last year for example - check out their website here), or in a massive dance performance (like Global Rock Challenge when I was at High School, more info on their site), or when I was on stage at high school, doing musicals or concert shows.
I realised that those were what I loved doing. When I came to Uni, I decided to put being on stage to the side - I worked back stage on a couple of shows and then I joined Ballroom and Latin American Dance Society (BALADS). And if my degree had been based on what I did with and for that society, I would have come out with a first, or a pretty high 2:1. Seriously though, I was so happy.

So I want to get back to that feeling. I spend most of my time in my room, watching dance videos, singing along to my spotify. But I want to do more. Unfortunately doing more often means spending money.

While I was at home, I managed to find a fairly decent dance school, which not brilliant, more than made me happy. I need to get back to that.

So in my room every night I'm going to stretch. Because I essentially figured I'm not very bendy, and would like to be. I am also inspired by my wonderful friend (and Facebook Fiance) Ollie, who has been stretching and can now put his right leg by his ear (to learn more about Ollie and his wonderful life on his year abroad, he also has a blog). So yeah, that's going to happen. I will also try and replicate YouTube videos in my kitchen. Try being the operative word there. I will post videos if these become hilarious, don't worry. And when I get money, I will go back to dance.

I'm definitely joining dance and theatre groups when I get to Newcastle. I essentially want to do as much as I can, although next year I will put a lot into my degree too!!

In other news, I will be posting in the next few days a list of all the books I think I have read so far. Connor (my housemate) and I were again talking about this the other day (we have lots of interesting conversations!) and I'm finding it amazingly hard. I've always read a lot of series, and not many "serious" books of the classics genre or anything. So I've attempted it, and currently have over 200 books. But I used to go on holiday and take like 12 books with me for two weeks (no word of a lie), all borrowed from my local library. I have no idea what half of these books were, and wish I'd made a record. So I've done my  best. I know there are quite a few out there that I remember the stories vaguely but can't for the life of me remember the name of. It's bad.  But yeah, I'll put it on here and add to it as I read more!! (Btw, Connor also blogs - you gotta love my friends. His blog can be found here)

Song of the Day (and the lyrics at the start of the blog): "Electricity" from Billy Elliot the Musical (written by Elton John :) )
